Shipping into New York and New Jersey: ports, transit and delivery

The Port of New York and New Jersey is the largest container port on the US East Coast and the East Coast gateway on Airlift's India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Belgium and Italy lanes. Airlift USA's New Jersey office, in North Brunswick, keeps each shipment file from the origin booking to the delivery: the Importer Security Filing, the customs entry filed by a licensed broker, the terminal appointment and the truck.

This page lists the published transit ranges into New York and Newark from every origin port with a pair page, the terminals the containers come through, and what happens after the gate. Most of Airlift's India-to-USA containers land here, at Norfolk, Savannah, Houston, Los Angeles, Charleston or Oakland.

Where the containers come in

Most of the port's containers move through the terminals at Port Newark and Elizabeth, in New Jersey; the others are in Bayonne, on Staten Island and at Red Hook in Brooklyn. UN/LOCODE lists the port as New York (USNYC) and Port Newark as Newark (USEWR); the pair pages use both, so the table above shows rows for each.

From the terminal a container is trucked to a warehouse in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania or Connecticut, taken to a partner warehouse for transloading into domestic trailers, or railed inland. Airlift's own shipment records since 2024 show containers for Columbus, Ohio, arriving through Norfolk first and New York and New Jersey second.

After the gate: drayage, transloading and delivery

The New Jersey office sits on the central New Jersey warehouse corridor, a drive down the Turnpike from Port Newark. It books the container pickup once the freight release and the customs release are in, and the delivery to your warehouse or a transload partner. Contracted motor carriers pull the containers and partner warehouses do the transloading; Airlift USA has no trucks or warehouses of its own.

Airlift USA has been in business since 1999 and is an FMC-licensed NVOCC (FMC No. 016162), not a customs broker: the customs entry is filed through its licensed customs-broker network, and US trucking is arranged as a non-asset, FMCSA-licensed property broker through contracted motor carriers.
