Vietnam logistics: shipping from Ho Chi Minh City to the USA
Southern Vietnam's containers leave through two sets of terminals. Tan Cang–Cat Lai, inside Ho Chi Minh City, is the country's largest container terminal and the place where most factory cargo gates in for feeder and barge services. The deep-water Cai Mep–Thi Vai terminals, near Vung Tau, take the large mainline ships, including the direct services to the United States. Since July 2025, when Binh Duong and Ba Ria–Vung Tau were merged into Ho Chi Minh City, both terminal groups sit inside the city's boundaries.
Computers, electronics and components are Vietnam's largest export, and textiles and garments, footwear and wood products are the other big groups. On our Vietnam to USA lane the main cargo is furniture, textiles, footwear and electronics.
Factories in the north ship through Hai Phong and fly from Noi Bai (HAN) in Hanoi. In the south, air cargo leaves from Tan Son Nhat (SGN); Long Thanh International Airport, in Dong Nai, is due to open for commercial flights in late 2026. Sea cargo from the south is usually relayed at a hub such as Kaohsiung, Yantian, Shanghai or Singapore, while Hai Phong has more direct West Coast calls, and the lane guide publishes 22–60 days port to port.
Our office, on the 46th floor of the Bitexco Financial Tower, books sea and air freight, arranges factory pickup, container stuffing and consolidation from several suppliers, and prepares the export documents for the declaration in VNACCS. Our New Jersey and Los Angeles offices then handle the Importer Security Filing, the US entry through licensed customs brokers, and delivery.
