Where the containers come in
The Port of Oakland's container terminals sit on the east side of San Francisco Bay, with Union Pacific and BNSF intermodal yards next to the port for containers moving to or from the interior. Most Asia services call Oakland after Los Angeles and Long Beach, which is why the published ranges from Shanghai, Ningbo and the Indian ports run a few days longer here than to San Pedro Bay; the trade-off is a short truck leg to a Northern California warehouse.

- Union Pacific and BNSF intermodal yards at the port, for rail to and from the interior
- San Francisco (SFO) and Oakland (OAK) airports for air freight

After the gate: the Bay Area, Sacramento and the Central Valley
Drayage from the Oakland terminals is arranged through contracted motor carriers, with the same release, appointment, pickup and empty-return steps as at every port. Warehouses in Stockton, Tracy, Sacramento and the East Bay are a direct truck move; Southern California deliveries are better served through Los Angeles and Long Beach. Airlift arranges the move as a broker; it owns no trucks or warehouses in Northern California.
Airlift USA has been in business since 1999 and is an FMC-licensed NVOCC (FMC No. 016162), not a customs broker: the customs entry is filed through its licensed customs-broker network, and US trucking is arranged as a non-asset, FMCSA-licensed property broker through contracted motor carriers.
