ZIM is not in an alliance. It shares vessels and swaps slots with MSC on Asia–US East Coast and Asia–US Gulf services under a three-year agreement that started in February 2025. Hapag-Lloyd agreed to acquire ZIM in February 2026; on the verification date the deal was still under regulatory review and ZIM sailed as an independent carrier.
Alliance partners share vessels and space on their joint services, so a booking with one carrier may sail on a partner’s ship; the bill of lading, the booking and customer service stay with the carrier you booked.
